HOW TO: Catwalk to Sidewalk Glitter Edition ss14

The best of the best in fashion are currently in the middle of showcasing their spring summer collections 2014 and with the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival on it’s way we thought it was tutorial time with some high fashion inspiration!

The haute couture ss14 Paris fashion week has just ended with the makeup trends ranging from metallic smokey eyes to very clean ‘no makeup’ looks. London ss14 also featured the ‘no makeup’  look along with red lips and natural eyebrows. One of my favourite looks from both the recent fashion weeks was the gorgeous holographic silver glitter eyes featured in the Chanel haute couture collection showcased in Paris.

L’oreal have just realised the photos of the makeup trails for the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival starting in mid March. All the images are stunning but the one that caught my eye was this makeup look featuring fresh skin, bold brows, a dark berry lip and gold leaf in the centre of the eyelid.

So I decided to create a makeup look inspired by the colours in the photo above. Hope you enjoy!

1. Eyes first, glitter is messy. Here I placed the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Bold Gold all over the eyelid with my finger.

2. Next I placed another colour tattoo (Barley Branded) in the inner corners of the eye and part of the way along the lower lashline.

3. On a blending brush I then put Snakebite from the Naked 2 palette in the crease and along the lower lashline. Don’t be afraid to blend this quite far up to the brow bone.

4. Grab any white or nude coloured eyeliner and put it in your waterline. Here I use Rimmel London Scandaleyes Kohl Kajal eyeliner in Nude.

5. Getting a small amount of gold glitter on my finger, I then patted it all over the eyelid. (To clean up fallout use a piece of sticky tape)

6. I then applied a generous coat of Revlon Grow Luscious to the lashes and followed with a pair of half lashes that flare out at the outer edges.

7. Moving on to the face: I used an Illamasqua primer and Maybelline Fit Me Foundation with a dense buffing brush. Following that I used a Mehron concealer quad under my eyes and set my T zone with Ben Nye loose translucent powder.

8. I then slightly contoured with NYX blush in Taupe and applied a pink gold blush

Here is the final look (sorry the photo is blurry)

So I hoped you liked it. Please comment for any blog/video requests or if you have any questions 🙂

Makeup Tutorial: Perfect Date Night Look

Image

Hello Lovelies!

Today we have a makeup look for all of you. So this started when Carla came to me and asked how she could use this gorgeous eyeshadow colour from MAC. It was called Tilt and it is a beautiful dusty frosty blue with a sort of lilac reflex. So we decided that we would do a pictorial for you on this makeup look. This look would be great for a date night (maybe too full on for first date though), a girl’s night out or even a formal occasion such as prom.

STEP 1:

– Using a flat shader brush push the Tilt colour across the eyelids

– Then grab a blending brush and blend out the harsh line in the crease and slightly wing out the eyeshadow in the direction of the end of your brow

Image

STEP 2:

– Using a darker blue colour (we used M.A.C. Flashtrack) on a flat shader brush place it on the outer ‘v’ or outer corner of the eyes

– Then blend way and wing out the eyeshadow in the same way as Tilt, when using darker colours is it important to make sure you aren’t creating ‘gaps’ in your eyeshadow, so you may need to go in and reapply and blend.

STEP 3:

– Always my favourite step, draw a fairly thick line of eyeliner, it can be gel or liquid, whatever you prefer (we used Benefit Magic Ink) and draw a wing to meet the outside of the crease. The proper way to angle you eyeliner will change from person to person, If you have a slightly hooded lid (meaning that the fold of your crease will finish closer to the outer corner of your eye) you will need to create a straighter wing. As a general rule however follow the angle of your bottom lashes and wing the eyeliner as far as you like.

-With the darker blue colour we used to darken the outer ‘v’ on a small brush drag that as close to the bottom lashes as possible. Don’t put the colour all the way along the bottom as this will close off your eyes making them appear smaller, instead just apply the colour to the outer half of your bottom lashline.

– We also applied MAC Fascinating Kohl eye pencil to the bottom waterline. A white or skin-coloured eyeliner helps to open your eyes up and to knock out any redness that may have been there.

STEP 4:

– We applied Benefit ‘They’re Real’ mascara to the top and bottom lashes and small corner lashes.

Image

STEP 5:

– For the rest of the face we used:

– Primer: Benefit POREfessional

– Foundation: Revlon Colorstay in 200 nude,

Powder: Face of Australia loose translucent powder

–  Lips: MAC lustre lipstick in Naked Paris and then a Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Life’s a Peach

– Contour: NYX blush in Taupe

– Blush: Benefit Belle Bamba

AND THE FINISHED PRODUCT!
